Weekly update

Grade 8 Language Arts students are busy planning scripts and filming their scenes from The Outsiders.  We hope to host our film festival late next week to celebrate.  Official Assignment outline HERE.  On Wednesday, we will use our class time to work with Woodman's Artist-in-Residence Jacqueline Guest who will provide the following workshop:  The Comic Book War:  WW2 and Cosmic Comic Book Superheroes.

Grade 9 Social Studies students continue their study of the charter.  Students are working on persuasive speaking tasks.   Official Assignment outline HERE and a link to Mr. Wallace's research on persuasion HERE.  I will be assessing student speeches next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Grade 9 Language Arts students began a study of Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven this week.  We listened to Christopher Walken perform the poem, annotated the poem as a class and are now representing our understanding through this assignment:  The Raven in Social Media.  This task is due Tuesday.

Welcome back to another week in Room 25!

Grade 9 Social Studies students have begun their study of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms by reading and interpreting the document, and by creating a visual that responds to one of the protections offered.    CLICK HERE for the assignment.

Grade 9 Language Arts students are completing their second essay or narrative of the year on "Survival".  CLICK HERE for the assignment.

Grade 8 Language Arts students are finishing their final debates and we are starting our study of The Outsiders.

Weekly Update

Closing out another busy week in Room 25. 

Language Arts 8 students completed debates in teams of two.  Content management and speaking/listening were assessed.  We also visited Mrs. Reckord in the learning commons to explore free-reading fiction and non-fiction.  Students should be bringing their library book to class each day; we will return in two weeks for a book exchange. 

Language Arts 9 students completed their third fishbowl discussion for Touching Spirit Bear.  We wrap up our novel study next Thursday with a final seminar on the remaining chapters. 

Social Studies 9 students have completed mock trials and the final pieces of YCJA (Chapter 2 - Social Studies 9 textbook).   A test date has been set for next Thursday.

Yearbook students have organized a cover art contest for this year's yearbook and are incorporating Riverwatch and Athletics photos into activity pages.

Leadership students are hosting a Halloween dance and carnival next week.  We also sold Candygrams! 

Next week is also busy with band camp, Take Your Kid to Work Day, WE Day and Halloween.  Looking forward to it :)
